Why we built IslamicKnot — marriage that begins with the family

Most marriage apps were built for dating, then lightly adapted for Muslims. We started from the opposite end: how do Muslim families actually arrange marriage? The answer put the guardian — the wali — at the centre, not at the margins.

Browsing is free; reaching a family is deliberate

On IslamicKnot, anyone can browse verified profiles anonymously, with no account. What you cannot do is message a woman directly. Instead, when a profile feels right, you request her family’s contact — and you pay a small amount to do so.

That payment is not really about revenue. It is a seriousness filter. A man willing to pay to speak with a family is signalling genuine marriage intent, which protects families from idle attention and keeps the whole platform calm and respectful.

You speak to her wali

When you make contact, you receive the guardian’s phone number — her father or brother — and continue the conversation off-platform, with the family. There is no chat, no swiping, no one-to-one messaging. This is how introductions have always worked; we simply made them easy to start.

Privacy is the default

• Photos are shown softly blurred until contact is made.
• A guardian’s phone number is never public — it is revealed only to someone who has paid to reach that specific family.
• The structured profile (background, practising level, considered details) does the work that a clear photo otherwise would.

A dignified path for revert sisters

A revert — a sister who has embraced Islam — often has no wali to represent her. Rather than leave her without a safe option, IslamicKnot lets her create her own profile, and our team acts as her chaperone. Seekers reach a platform chaperone, never her own number, and an admin arranges a small group introduction so she is never speaking with a man alone.
