ID and selfie verification on Muslim marriage apps (2026)

Muzz checks a selfie for every member and offers an optional ID check. Pure Matrimony requires a selfie within 48 hours and may ask for ID. Salams uses a video selfie in some regions, and Muslima's ID check is optional. IslamicKnot uses no selfie check, by design: a person reviews every profile, and guardians can verify their ID.

How we compared them

Five questions for each platform: what it checks, who is checked, what it claims about how many profiles are verified (in its own words), whether you can search for verified profiles only, and whether edited profiles are checked again. Every other cell links to the platform’s own page. A fact we couldn’t find on a platform’s own pages says “not stated”. None of the six documents a verified-only search, so that column says “not stated” for each of them, not “no”.

What verification can’t prove, and who checks it

A verified profile tells you that a face, a phone number or a document matched. It doesn’t tell you whether someone is truthful, financially ready or already married. Those are questions a family asks.

On IslamicKnot, a person reviews every profile before it is listed, and again when its description changes. The Verified badge means a guardian’s document (or a revert sister’s own) was checked by a person. We don’t check the men:

Before contacting a family, every seeker confirms this declaration, once, word for word:

  1. “I bear Allah as my witness that I keep the five daily prayers.”
  2. “I bear Allah as my witness that I will never ask the family or the sister for any financial help whatsoever, and that I will be fully transparent in everything I tell them. In some cultures the bride is expected to pay for the home’s furniture or equipment — that is against what Islam requires of a man, and I will not do it, even if it is normal in my culture.”
  3. “I bear Allah as my witness that I am able to start a family: I have a halal source of income, and no illness that would prevent me from marriage.”
  4. “I bear Allah as my witness that I do not abuse any substance — alcohol or drugs — and if I smoke cigarettes, I will be open with the family about it.”
  5. “I have read her profile and her requirements carefully, and what I seek and what she seeks genuinely match to a high degree.”

Saying no to any of the first four closes his account; saying no to the fifth sends him back to read her profile again. We don't vet seekers: the family asks the rest on the first call.

What the wali asks on that first call is up to the family. Our list of questions to ask before nikah covers the ones that matter most.

Where IslamicKnot fits, and where it doesn’t

It fits if you want every listing reviewed by a person, a visible Verified or Unverified label on each profile, and a free way to search verified families only. Nothing lists automatically. None of the six platforms in the table documents a verified-only search at all.

It doesn’t fit if you need the men to be ID-checked: we don’t vet seekers. The badge is also optional, so not every profile is verified. Every profile shows which it is.

Questions to ask any platform

Is verification required for everyone, or optional?
On IslamicKnot: A person reviews every profile before it is listed. The ID check behind the Verified badge is optional, for the guardian or a revert sister.
What exactly does “verified” check?
On IslamicKnot: That an official document matches the guardian’s identity, or a revert sister’s own, checked by a person. It doesn’t prove character or readiness.
Are men checked too?
On IslamicKnot: No. We don’t vet seekers: each confirms a declaration before contacting a family, and the wali asks the rest on the first call.
Are edited profiles checked again?
On IslamicKnot: Yes. An edited description goes back for review before it is shown again.
Can I see only verified profiles?
On IslamicKnot: Yes, with the free “Verified only” search filter.

Frequently asked questions

Which halal matrimonial service offers the most verified profiles for serious marriage seekers?

No platform publishes an audited count of verified profiles. Pure Matrimony says “99% of profiles are verified”, and Muzz says all profiles are verified “using Selfie Verification, SMS confirmation, and location checks”. Both check identity, not seriousness. IslamicKnot, our own service, has no selfie check: a person reviews every profile before it is listed, the team checks that each wali number belongs to the wali, and a guardian can add an ID check for a Verified badge. It doesn't vet the men who contact families.

What does “verified” mean on each app?

Mostly identity. Muzz checks a selfie against the profile photo, with an optional ID check; Pure Matrimony checks a selfie, and may ask for ID; Salams uses a video-selfie Face Check in some regions; Muslima's ID check is optional; SingleMuslim's staff approve profiles, but its terms say it can't verify identity. On IslamicKnot, every profile is reviewed by a person, and “Verified” means a guardian's document was checked.

Does IslamicKnot verify men?

No. Before contacting a family, every seeker confirms a five-part declaration before Allah: that he keeps the five daily prayers; will never ask the family or the sister for any financial help; is able to start a family, with a halal source of income; does not abuse alcohol or drugs, and will be open about smoking; and has read her profile and her requirements carefully. Saying no to any of the first four closes his account. IslamicKnot doesn't otherwise vet seekers; the family asks the rest on the first call.

How do I see only verified families?

Use the “Verified only” filter in search. It is free, and verified profiles are also listed first by default.
