Muzmatch is now Muzz: what actually changed (and what didn't)

The short version

Muzmatch became Muzz in 2022. Same company, same founder, same app, same members — a new name and a new coat of paint. If you search for Muzmatch in the app stores today, what you will find is Muzz.

Why the name changed

Muzmatch was founded in 2015 by Shahzad Younas and grew into the biggest Muslim marriage app in the world under that name. The rename was not a business pivot — it was a trademark dispute. Match Group, the giant behind Tinder, Match.com, and Hinge, argued in the UK courts that the “-match” suffix infringed its trademarks. Muzmatch fought the case and lost, with the Court of Appeal ruling against it in 2022. Rather than carry the legal risk further, the company rebranded to Muzz.

It is worth saying plainly: losing a trademark fight to a much larger company says nothing negative about the product. The app that emerged as Muzz was the same one millions of Muslims were already using.

What actually changed

• The name and branding — Muzz, with new colours and a new logo.
• The domain — muzz.com replaced muzmatch.com.
• The app store listing — installed apps updated in place; new downloads find “Muzz”.

What stayed the same

• The company and founder. No acquisition, no new owners — notably, Muzz was not bought by Match Group; it lost a lawsuit to them, which is a different thing entirely.
• Your account. Muzmatch members became Muzz members automatically.
• The model. Profiles, filters, matching, and private in-app chat, with selfie verification and an optional chaperone feature that lets a woman add her wali to conversations. Free to match and chat, with a Gold subscription.

Since the rebrand, Muzz has kept growing — past ten million members — and remains the biggest name in the space in 2026.
