Muzz vs SingleMuslim vs Salams: how to choose (2026)

Choose by your non-negotiables. All three rely on private messaging between the man and the woman, and Muzz adds an optional chaperone who is emailed weekly transcripts. Muzz and Salams are free to match and chat; SingleMuslim is free to join, but a man needs Gold to message. If family involvement is non-negotiable, IslamicKnot starts with the wali instead.

Muzmatch is now Muzz: the app renamed itself in May 2022 (what changed).

How we compared them

On the six things that decide the choice: practice filters, the local pool, family involvement, privacy, verification, and what is free or paid. Every cell links to the platform’s own page or app-store listing. Member figures are the platforms’ own, and they differ between their own pages, so we don’t rank the three by size.

Pick one by what matters to you

  • Pick Muzz if you want free matching and chat, with an optional chaperone for your wali and filters by sect (religiosity is a Gold filter). Its own pages give different member counts, so don’t choose it on size alone.
  • Pick SingleMuslim if you prefer the classic matrimonial format, with search by salaah, sect, hijab and halal diet, and, as a man, you are ready to pay for Gold to message. It is UK-run, and cancelling Gold needs 28 days’ notice.
  • Pick Salams if you want a second big chat app, free for its main features, with a sect filter, and you are comfortable building the family guardrails yourself: it describes no wali feature.
  • Try the free versions first. Muzz and Salams cost nothing to match and chat, and SingleMuslim costs nothing to register and search. Pay only once you know which pool suits you.

For the two chat apps head to head, see Salams vs Muzz. For SingleMuslim on its own, see our SingleMuslim review, and for the UK picture, single Muslim in the UK.

If the wali comes first for you

All three start with a private chat between two people, and the family joins later if at all. IslamicKnot, our own service, works the other way round: there is no private messaging, and the only contact a man can unlock is her wali’s phone number. Nothing renews either: a man pays once for each family he contacts. How it works.

Frequently asked questions

How do I choose between halal matrimonial services like Muzmatch, SingleMuslim, and Salams for finding a spouse?

Decide what you can't compromise on. For free matching and chat with an optional chaperone, Muzz (Muzmatch is its old name); for a classic matrimonial site with detailed practice filters, SingleMuslim, where a man needs Gold to message; for a second free chat app, Salams, which has no wali feature. All three open a private chat between the man and the woman. If you want the wali first, we run IslamicKnot, where there is no private messaging.

Is Muzmatch the same as Muzz?

Yes. Muzmatch renamed itself Muzz in May 2022; it is the same company and the same app.

Which of the three can you use for free?

Muzz and Salams are free to match and chat, with optional paid tiers. SingleMuslim is free to register, browse and search; women get a complimentary membership with limited messages, and men need Gold to send, read and reply.

Which involves the wali?

Muzz has an optional Chaperone mode that emails a wali weekly transcripts of her chats. SingleMuslim and Salams describe no wali feature. None of the three starts with the wali; on IslamicKnot, which we run, a man's only contact is her wali's number.
